The camp combines Pro Ride’s freeride/off-piste snowboard training with backcountry travel: deep powder, trees, chutes and other terrain encountered in the backcountry, plus a cat boarding day and a split boarding day.

As long as you can make turns down intermediate terrain then you are ready for Pro Ride. The majority of Pro Ride’s programs are designed for the intermediate to advanced rider.

With endless acres of steeps, trees, powder and snowboard parks, Whistler is consistently ranked one of the best destination snowboarding resorts in the world, with over 10 metres of snowfall annually.

Getting There

Book flights into Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Pro Ride arranges door-to-door transport from YVR to Whistler and it is included in the program.

Try to arrive between 10am and 4pm on the Saturday and depart after 12 noon on the last day of your program. The last transfer from YVR to Whistler is 6pm, so allow time to collect bags and clear customs.

Return transfers are not included in your camp but can be added at any time before or after you arrive.

Pickups from select locations in downtown Vancouver can be arranged on request.

You can arrive in Whistler earlier or later, but Pro Ride accommodation starts on your camp start date, which is always a Saturday. Arriving a day late still means no missed training, as all sessions start on the Monday after arrival.

Itinerary

Week 1 — Backcountry 101: four days of technical rider development with Pro Ride’s top coaches, working on the skills necessary for a fun and safe experience in the backcountry. Through coach feedback and video analysis sessions you will work on technique for safely riding deep powder, trees, chutes, and other terrain encountered in the backcountry.

Week 1 — Level 1 AST: a 2 day Avalanche Skills Training course mixing theory and practical skills. You will learn about formation of avalanches, factors affecting snow-pack, route finding, safety equipment usage and snow-pack observation and assessment.

Week 2 — Applying your new skills: a day or two free to ride, relax or plan your own adventures, followed by a day of split boarding with a qualified guide and a day of cat boarding in the Whistler backcountry. There is the option to continue on the next day, add a day of heli boarding, or earn your turns hiking around Whistler. The last day is the Pro Ride crew’s Friday fun day — a short hike, a new area, or building a backcountry booter.
