Terrain, ability and who it is for
- You already have experience backcountry or side country skiing and you can descend in various snow types, without falling (excessively…) or stopping. You’re comfortable on slopes up to 35°. You enjoy off piste skiing and you wish to improve your technique and style.
- This off-piste performance ski course is designed for intermediate off piste skiers with some prior experience skiing off-piste. To get the most out of the course, you should meet the following requirements:
- You are confident skiing black pistes and moguls with minimal stopping and can handle tracked-out off-piste terrain commonly found in major ski resorts.
- You may lack confidence in deep, untracked snow, especially when there’s no firm base, and are looking to improve your technique in these conditions.
- You’re not afraid of varied snow types (powder, crust, spring snow), though skiing them remains a technical challenge you want to overcome.
- You can make controlled turns on slopes up to 35° and are comfortable navigating moderate off-piste descents.
- You have a good level of physical fitness, ready for full days on the mountain and short uphill climbs.

Day by day
This itinerary is an example of type of skiing and terrain you can expect to experience on this course.
- Arrival: ChamonixYou will meet with your group and your mountain guide at the Chamonix Experience office in Chamonix Sud on Sunday evening to discuss the programme for the week. Your mountain guide will let you know about the weather and snow conditions in Chamonix, you will have the chance to ask any last minute questions.
- Day 1: Le Tour & Col de BalmeLe Tour is a good place for your mountain guide to assess everyone’s ski level and run through the basics of mountain safety and avalanche awareness. The off-piste at Le Tour is easily accessible and of a gentle gradient. It also offers brilliant tree skiing and long runs to Switzerland over the Col de Balme. The back bowls of le Tour are also perfect for studying how wind, terrain and temperatures affect the snow pack and avalanche risk, so here is where we will do our avalanche awareness training to get the week off to a safe start.
- Day 2: FlegereThe Flégère area in Chamonix offers a diverse range of off-piste skiing options with stunning views of the Mont Blanc massif. Known for its sunny slopes and varied terrain, it’s perfect for intermediate to advanced skiers. The area also provides access to untouched powder stashes and challenging couloirs, making it a favorite for freeride enthusiasts seeking thrilling runs amidst breathtaking alpine scenery.
- Day 3: Les Grands MontetsGrand Montets’ north facing aspect means that this area holds the snow the best and the latest in the season. This offers excellent long steep pitches and technical forest runs.
- Day 4: BreventThe south facing ski areas of Brevent offer fun terrain with many secrets bowls. When Brévent is good it is maybe the best off-piste in the valley. There is the famous “Hotel face” offering advanced off piste skiing.
- Day 5: Courmayeur, ItalyThe Courmayeur ski area in Italy is a hidden gem for off-piste skiing, offering a mix of thrilling terrain and breathtaking views of Mont Blanc’s southern face. Its vast, varied descents range from open powder fields to challenging forest runs, perfect for intermediate to advanced skiers.
