Day by day
Please note the route and daily objectives may vary depending on weather, snow conditions, and group experience.
- Day 1: Arrive in Zernez and meet the guide and the rest of the group in the early evening for a welcome meeting, briefing and equipment check.
- Day 2: We start with a train and taxi/bus ride to the Julierpass. We begin north along the valley, the summit destination, Piz Surgonda. The final stretch to the summit requires a steep ascent on foot. Following the ascent, we enjoy a rewarding descent to just below the Hut, where a final 200 meters of uphill is needed to reach the Hutte.Dependening upon time and appetite, after decanting accessory equipment at the Hut, we can journey to summit the Tschima de Flix, before enjoying the fantastic north facing descent.Duration: 3-5 hoursElevation change: 1200m
- Day 3: Today we get a stunning 1500m descent, but not before we face a difficult exposed traverse which requires stable avalanche conditions. Lower down, a lengthy traverse is made to bypass a cliff band, which leads to our 1.5km ski down. Upon reaching the treeline, a steep and narrow trail deposits us at the railway at Nax.What follows is a spectatular, short train ride to Bergun, where our Hotel awaits for the night. In good conditions, we can keep our skis on and follow the toboggan run down to the village and the Hotel.Duration: 5-6 hoursElevation Change: 1600m
- Day 4: Today we utilise the lift system to get up and out of Bergun. We then embark on a stunning traverse, ascending and crossing Piz Darlux, and descending slightly to a col. From there, we continue along an exposed and beautiful ridge to the Tschimas de Tisch at 2870m. The descent from Tschimas de Tisch often offers excellent snow, softened by the morning sun, over a snow-covered lake, down to the valley at 2170m. From here, it's a long but gentle climb over the Fuorcla Pischa, onto the Es-Cha Hutte for the night.Duration: 5 - 6 hoursElevation change: 850m
- Day 5: We head over the moraine ridge behind the Hut, to a short technical ridge whereby we may use a chain to assist. Luckily, there is also a simpler approach further along the ridge with a gentle traverse. Once on to the glaicer, we descend fantastic north facing slopes all the way to the Kesch Hut.Duration: 4.5- 5.5 hoursElevation Change: 850m
- Day 6: The day starts with an early morning cold ski to the Alp Funtuana (2191m). Soon to be warmed by a steady skin up Piz Grialetsch until we reach it's ridge adjoining Sclaettahorn. We start our descent to the Grialetsch Hut for the evening. On days with poorer conditions, we head west over the Scalettapass, before descending to just below our Hut, so a short skin takes us to the Hut.Duration: 5-6 hoursElevation change: 850m
- Day 7: We skin to the summit of Piz Sarsura at 3175m, where a few options await. It will be guide's call to judge which is the best option. Whatever the choice, there is a big descent of around 1700m to the valley floor. Again, we benefit from north-east facing slopes to the lowest track. We make our way back to Zernez for our final night in the Hotel.Duration: 4-5 hoursElevation change: 1700m
- Day 8: Departure after breakfast.
